Robin C. Fortner was born and raised in New York City. Robin enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1990. During her 30 year career, she has served in a variety of billets. Beginning her career within the supply logistics field, she has held every position to include Supply Chief and Supply Analyst for a Major Subordinate Command. Outside of her Military Occupational Specialty she served in billets such as Military Police, Primary Marksmanship Instructor, Drill Instructor, Anti-Terrorism Force Protection Officer and as an Adjunct Professor. Prior to her current role, she served as the Director of Staff Non-Commissioned Officer Academy under Marine Corps University, responsible for the formal training and development of Marine Corps Leaders.
Understanding the need to implement diversity and inclusion practices within an organization, Sergeant Major Fortner took an active role in preserving the legacy of female Marines through two monumental ceremonies celebrating 69 and 70 years of service. She also represented the Marine Corps in several diversity efforts and was hand selected to serve as Senior Enlisted Advisor for the first unit integrating women in combat roles. This pivotal shift in military talent management has paved the way for modern changes in reference to standardization of combat roles across the Department of Defense.
